Giving Back

Swofford Landing & Fishing Pier at the Lake Hale Amphitheater Camp Glisson, Dahlonega, Georgia

Swofford Construction built several contract buildings for Camp Glisson, a Methodist retreat in Dahlonega, GA. Over the years, a great friendship has developed, and Ken Swofford decided it was time to give back to the camp. Swofford Construction employees spent various weekends to help design and construct a large deck that overlooks the camp’s lake. Materials were furnished by Swofford Construction and steel pickets were donated by Jonquil Steel.

The project was an inspiration to the Swofford Construction employees and validates the teamwork and dedication that exists within the company. Campers can now enjoy a great view next to a warm fire overlooking Lake Hale.

Swofford Construction completed the addition of a fishing pier in 2010 where the children have enjoyed countless hours of recreation.

The Calvin Center – Hampton, GA

Swofford Construction improved the Equestrian Center for The Calvin Center in Hampton, GA. The Equestrian Center offers a Therapeutic Program for adults and children with disabilities. Just the simple, gentle rhythmic motion of a horse’s gait helps the participant’s muscles to loosen, increasing flexibility and strength of the patient.

Through a volunteer at The Calvin Center, Swofford Construction was told that some of the facilities were in disrepair. Our employees stepped up to help. Swofford Construction employees volunteered their time to improve the handicap access to the Equestrian Center, adding sidewalks from the Barn to the Parking Area and the existing Pavilion. Walker Concrete made the generous donation of concrete for the project.

Make-A-Wish Foundation

Swofford Construction sponsored a young girl, Kennedy Grace, on a week long vacation with her family to Walt Disney World. Kennedy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells and sometimes prevents her body from fighting infections. It was her dream to become a princess, and for that week, her dream came true. This was the second year Swofford Construction was able to contribute to this wonderful foundation.

Toys for Tots

Swofford Construction helped the Young Leaders of the Georgia Branch, AGC, make their goal of bringing holiday joy to less fortunate children. Everyone at Swofford Construction donated unwrapped toys for the cause and the toys were delivered to local needy children in our area.

Northwoods United Methodist Church

The pastor of Northwoods United Methodist Church asked Swofford Construction if we could help in getting bids on several repair projects at their campus in Doraville, Georgia.  Once the repair projects were reviewed it was determined that it would be difficult to get bids due to the fact that some of the needed repair work was covered by the exterior siding and hard to see.  So we offered a deal to the pastor that Swofford Construction would donate the needed labor and materials for the repair work in exchange of the church members furnish ‘home cooked’ lunches for our workers on the days we worked.  The pastor accepted the deal and several of our employees volunteered their time and got to enjoy some great cooking.
